Gingerbread Men

Our big book this week was
 "The Gingerbread Man."
So today we made our own Gingerbread men.

We each had a piece of dough to make into something.
We cooked them at lunchtime. We were a bit worried about them running away, so when we went to check if they were cooked we placed guards at the doors, and closed the windows so none could escape!!!

When they had cooled we iced and decorated them.

And then we ate them!!!

Hockey

For the last 3 weeks we have been learning how to play hockey.
Dane has been our coach.(He plays in the Black Sticks squad)
First we learnt how to hold a stick, and how to dribble a ball.

Keira you are holding the stick perfectly.

What great stick work Macy!
We are  now very good at moving with the ball.

Lily could keep the ball right in front of her stick!
Dane taught us this very good game called "King pf the Square."
We had to dribble our ball around and try and push the other players balls out of the square.

In our last session we had a proper game of hockey.
The green, orange and purple sticks against the blue and yellow sticks.

The green, orange , purple team won 2-0.

Holly did an amazing save as goalie!

Next we have to learn about spreading out so we can pass the ball to others in the team!!!

60 Day

Last week when Mrs Fraser was in we were reading stories about Kings, Queens, Princesses and Princes.
They lived in castles and wore beautiful crowns.

So for 60 day we made special crowns so we could be Kings, Queens, Princes or Princesses.
Our crowns were special because they were 60 day crowns- we wrote 60s on them and then decorated them with 60 decorations.

We counted out 10 decorations and put them on, and then got another 10 until we had 60.
We needed 6 groups of 10 to make 60.
10+10+10+10+10+10= 60

6 X 10=60

Our taniwha mural

Last term we read some of the Maori legends about New Zealand.
We especially liked the one about Ngake and Whaitaitai, the taniwhas of Wellington Harbour so we decided to paint a mural about them.

First we painted the sea and sky.

Next we painted the land.

Then the taniwhas.

John screwed our mural up outside Room 14.

Doesn't it look fabulous!

We are all very proud of our mural.
If you want to read the story of our taniwhas go to.tki.org.nz/...Legends.../Ngake-and-Whataitai-

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

We have been reading all about Goldilocks and her visit to  the Three Bear's house.

They made porridge so we made Bears porridge.

First we boiled up the porridge
Then we added the toppings.  Bears put interesting things on their porridge. We could have brown sugar, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows and currants on our porridge.

And then we ate it. It was yummy!!!!

Look what happened to our swan plant seeds!

Over the holidays all our swan plant seeds germinated.

So on Friday we potted them up into little pots.

We now have lots of swan plants growing in pots on our window sill.
Everyone in Room 14 will take one home soon and we hope to plant some around the school so everybody can get to see the amazing Monarch caterpillars and butterflies.
